In honor of this forest, the beach even has another unofficial name, Palm Beach. The main name, Preveli, is derived from the Orthodox monastery of the same name, 2.5 kilometers away. Preveli Beach is located 10km from the village of Plakias and 35km south of Rethymno, at the exit of the imposing Kourtaliotiko Gorge, where a picturesque mountain.

Preveli Beach ( Greek: Φοινικόδασος της Πρέβελης, Finikodasos tis Prevelis) is a beach located on the south coast of the Greek Mediterranean island of Crete. It is located in the municipality of Agios Vasilios in the Rethymno regional unit, not far from the Moni Preveli monastery, whose name has passed on to it.

It's an undeveloped beach, no sunbeds, umbrellas, showers or bars here, only a small canteen with a toilet at the end of the beach. You find shade under the palm trees at the back of the beach, and there's a tiny lagoon, sometimes.

Preveli Beach is a beautiful sheltered beach, surrounded by dramatic cliffs and palm forest. Of the three ways to reach Preveli Beach, arriving by boat is the easiest. The other two options involve either 470 steep steps from the parking lot or a hike and wade across a river—appropriate footwear is advisable either way.

There's even a good chance you'll see people spearfishing (like the unhappy guy we saw halfway up the stairs who was clearly finding his neoprene wetsuit and booties more suited to the water than a long, hot, rocky climb).
